Obviously, Sandvik has grown to a global business, and the complexity of multiple markets, laws and regulations is an everyday challenge.
Patents, trademarks and other intellectual property rights are vital and important elements of Sandvik's business operations. The patent functions of the Sandvik group are organized at each Business Area and we are now looking for a Patent Attorney who shall work for the patent function for Sandvik Materials Technology (SMT). This position is to be located in either Sandviken, Stockholm or Hallstahammar, and some travel between the locations is required.
Job Summary
As a Patent Attorney, your main objective is to provide counseling to Business Area Sandvik Materials Technology (SMT), in particular by supporting R&D managers, product managers, project managers, inventors and others in all parts of the business. You harvest and evaluate new inventions, prepare and prosecute patent applications and oppositions, monitor competitor's activities, conduct freedom-to-operate investigations and enforce our patents to ensure that new products can be launched on the market, as well as to protect profit margins. You also contribute to increase the IP awareness by delivering IP education for relevant groups.
You assist the product area with their IP strategy development and play an active role in the patent processes of the product area. The patent team responsible for the patent work SMT comprises of three people but you will also work closely with the patent functions for the other Business Areas. In this position, you report to the Head of Patents SMT.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with a Master of Science in Engineering, or other relevant academic experience. It is preferred that you also have successfully completed at least three parts of the European Qualifying Examination, or the equivalent. You have at least a few years of IP experience, preferably within the engineering field, from private practice, other industry patent departments, or similar entities. Excellent knowledge of the patenting process, from idea to granted patent. are important, as is good knowledge of IP enforcement and competitor monitoring. Experience of oppositions proceedings in at least one jurisdiction is advantageous. Further, previous experience with the technology and products of Sandvik Materials Technology, or similar is preferred, but not required. As we operate in a global setting, your English skills must be excellent, both verbally and in writing, while skills in Swedish or German are advantageous.

Excellent teamwork and knowledge sharing is also very important to you, and your genuine interest in patent processes is much appreciated by us.
