RaySearch develops innovative software solutions to improve cancer care. Over 2,600 clinics in more than 65 countries use RaySearch software to improve treatments and quality of life for patients. RaySearch was founded in 2000 and is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm. Headquarter is in central Stockholm and the company has subsidiaries in the US, Europe and Asia. Today we are more than 380 employees with a common vision in improving cancer care with innovative software. Our great staff is crucial for our success and we offer a fantastic working environment in modern offices, flexibility and good opportunities for development. We believe in equal opportunities, value diversity and work actively to prevent discrimination.

Are you in the end of your studies in engineering physics, physics, medical physics or similar? RaySearch now offers two Master Thesis positions within physics, starting sometime between November 2020 and March 2021.

We offer the following Master Thesis projects:

1. Doses in magnetic fields

Using magnetic resonance imaging during photon radiation treatment is becoming increasingly popular. Photons are not influenced by the magnetic field, but the dose mediating electrons are, causing phenomena which must be taken into account in dose computation and in clinical practice. This work serves to identify and perform appropriate in silico experiments and compare doses in magnetic fields from the golden standard software package EGSnrc and a prototype version of the RayStation photon Monte Carlo.

2. Monte Carlo simulations for brachytherapy treatments

Brachytherapy cancer treatments use sealed radioactive sources placed inside the body, which results in highly efficient, localized dose distributions. RaySearch recently entered the field of brachytherapy and one of our development teams is now focusing on finalizing the first clinical product including brachytherapy planning. The current functionality includes a fast, analytical dose engine in which the whole patient body is treated as water. More advanced dose computation algorithms, such as Monte Carlo, can be used for improved handling of e.g. variations in the patient anatomy. First steps have been taken to adopt the in-house developed Monte Carlo dose engine for use in brachytherapy and this project will be part of the prototype development. Specific goals of the project include simulations with independent Monte Carlo codes to characterize the radiation from different brachytherapy sources.

Starting your career at RaySearch

Joining RaySearch as a Master Thesis Student, you will:

• ... get a solid introduction to our company, products and ways of working.
• ...become part of a rapidly growing, global Swedish company with 400+ employees, head office and R&D department in central Stockholm with a chance of full-time employment after graduation.
