Lecturer in anatomy
Reference number PAR 2024/577
The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
At the Institute of Biomedicine, the scientific focus is in understanding the fundamental aspects of the cells of the body -what they consist of, how they function, how their behaviour is governed by genetics, and how they interact with various types of microorganisms. With this knowledge, we strive to elucidate the causes of different disease states and discover new opportunities for diagnosis and treatment. For more information about the Institute's activities, visit our website: Biomedicine at the University of Gothenburg.
Medical education is a crucial part of the Institute of Biomedicine's educational responsibility. The Institute is in charge of term 1, term 3, and term 5. Term 1 includes an overview of anatomy integrated with histology, while term 3 covers clinical anatomy.
Subject area
Anatomy
Subject area description
Teaching of descriptive anatomy takes place in the first semester of the Medical programme, whereas clinically-oriented anatomy, including dissection of human specimens and basics in radiology with reference to normal human anatomy, is a predominant part of the third semester. In addition, there is an advanced course in anatomy by which a limited number of medical students is trained for assistant duties in all anatomy courses of the program. Involvement in dissections include management and preparation of donors as well as acting as course examiner.
Duties
In the employment, extensive teaching in anatomy within the medical program is included. The position holder will also be a course leader/examiner in one of the anatomy courses. As a teacher, one should, in collaboration with other teachers, plan, execute, and contribute to the development of the courses: LPG001 (medical program term 1), LPG003 (medical program term 3), and the advanced course in anatomy. The teaching includes dissection. The employment may also involve administrative tasks related to teaching and body donation. Teaching primarily takes place in Swedish, but English is also used.
Eligibility
Qualifications for employment as a teacher are specified in the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.
For the current position, the following requirements apply:
• Higher education at least at an advanced level within medicine, along with demonstrated pedagogical skills.
• Medical degree.
• Ability to teach in Swedish and English.
Assessment criteria
Qualifications for employment as a teacher are specified in the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.
For the current position, the greatest emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skills, as the main tasks involve teaching. When assessing pedagogical skills, significant weight will be given to the ability to lead and plan education, as well as to conduct teaching within anatomy. Pedagogical skills should be documented, and documented experience in dissection is highly advantageous. Considering the job responsibilities, importance will also be attached to personal qualities (flexibility and precision) and collaboration skills. Administrative abilities will also be taken into account.
Employment
Permanent employment, part-time 30%. The position is located at The Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment is by agreement.
