MachineGames are looking for an exceptional Lead Level Designer to lead, manage, and mentor a team of level designers for our newest project.
The individual in this position will work closely with the project Leads, Design Director and our Game Director to help ensure the gameplay within levels reflects the vision of the game and exploits its mechanics.
Our studio is located in central Uppsala, Sweden which is a small and vibrant city 40 minutes north of the capital Stockholm. It has a historical heritage reaching back to pre-medieval times.

This is a permanent position starting as soon as possible. The role is onsite with a possibility of a hybrid work solution. We will support your relocation and/or application for work permit if you don't have one or are not an EU citizen and/or are not currently residing in Sweden.
Responsibilities
Stay up to date with the overall vision of the game - take responsibility over level design and drive collaboration between other disciplines such as level designers, environment artists, and game designers.
Collaborate with the directors to help define the high-level direction for mission design and assist in communicating the vision to the team.
Assist in creating and maintaining level design documentation (walkthroughs, mission documents, layout diagrams, etc).
Oversee the creation of level layouts and 3D block-outs for in-engine playtesting, with a focus on pacing, narrative integration, and flow.
Monitor level construction metrics and help ensure they are communicated and respected from block-out to final.
Work to ensure that ongoing level design work supports the game's design, narrative, art, and technical requirements.
Mentor designers and environment artists in level design related areas.
Collaborate with all disciplines to integrate and iterate on level content.
Collaborate with all disciplines to develop content integration tools, technology, and workflows.
Help build better and more efficient processes with the team.
Work with the production team on planning and adjusting level development schedules.
Play the game frequently, monitor progress, and identify, communicate, and try to resolve level design related issues quickly and efficiently

Qualifications
5+ years of professional level design experience
At least one shipped title in the capacity of a senior or lead role
Strong understanding of level design principles and theory
Advanced knowledge and experience with level editors (Unreal Level Editor, Sandbox Editor, Hammer or similar)
Experience with scripting and/or programming
Positive, enthusiastic, team-oriented attitude
Excellent communication skills in oral and written English.
