We conduct research of high quality and societal relevance within the subject of sports science with a focus on humans in motion. We train teachers in the school subject of sports and health, as well as coaches, health educators, sports managers, sports scientists and researchers. At GIH, 160 employees and 1,400 students work and study. The university is centrally located in Stockholm, close to Stockholm Stadium and a large sports and outdoor area.Job Duties
The tasks will primarily be carried out within the sports science education and research activities at the Laboratory for Biomechanics and Motor Control (BMC). This includes planning and preparing research, teaching, and supervision where equipment and test setups are involved, as well as instructing researchers and students in laboratory-based methods. Additionally, general laboratory administration such as ordering goods, booking facilities, and inventorying test and measurement equipment is included. Some tasks primarily related to sports science biomechanical research activities will also be added. This involves planning and preparing for and conducting experiments in biomechanics, applied sports research, and statistical analysis.
The BMC laboratory plays an important role in research and teaching in the field of biomechanics and motor control. Here, various scientific questions can be answered using equipment and methods for studying human movement and its neural, muscular, and mechanical effects.
The BMC laboratory consists of three different laboratories:
• Movement Analysis Laboratory
• Strength Laboratory
• Neurophysiology Laboratory
In the Movement Analysis Laboratory, advanced biomechanical techniques are used for measuring and analyzing, for example, three-dimensional (3D) movement and force. The laboratory has an optoelectronic motion analysis system for recording movement in a 3D volume and two floor-mounted force plates. Additionally, there is a range of other equipment for measuring movement and force, such as an instrumented treadmill (Motionmetrix).
The main equipment in the Strength Laboratory is an isokinetic dynamometer that allows precise control of rotational speed and range of motion in all major joints of the body. Joint angle, reaction force, and torque during movement are recorded. Measurement equipment such as EMG, motion analysis systems, and ultrasound can be synchronized with measurements in the dynamometer.
The Neurophysiology Laboratory is primarily equipped with tools to measure neural strategies for motor control and the effects of physical activity on the function of the nervous system.
