hela Sverige PhD student position in Quantum machine learning
Volvo Group and Chalmers University of Technology are recruiting an industrial PhD student in quantum machine learning and its applications in the automotive industry. The PhD project will be carried out within the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT). The successful candidate will be employed by Volvo Group, but do most of the work at Chalmers University of Technology.
The PhD project
The core mission of WACQT is to build a quantum computer. This is a new type of computer, which relies on the distinctly quantum phenomena of entanglement and superposition for its function. Finding new applications and algorithms that harness these quantum phenomena to speed up computing is a very active area of research. In this PhD project, the focus is on finding ways in which a quantum computer can enhance machine learning, and in particular how such enhancements can be applied in the automotive industry.
About the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology - WACQT
The Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT) is a 10-year initiative aimed at bringing Swedish academia and industry to the forefront of quantum technology. For more information about WACQT, see
www.wacqt.se. The centre is funded mainly by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundations with additional contributions from the participating universities and industry. At Chalmers, the focus is on building a superconducting quantum computer/simulator and exploring useful applications of quantum computing/simulation. As an industrial PhD student in WACQT, you will work together with the WACQT researchers at Chalmers and be part of the WACQT graduate school. The graduate school includes joint courses and summer/winter schools together with PhD students from all universities in WACQT.
Your employment at Volvo will be at Volvo GTT, where the R&D for the next generation trucks is performed. At Volvo, you will be part of the Vehicle Automation organization which develops Volvo's autonomous vehicles,
