The purpose of the position is to manage all aspects of the design, build and maintenance of the HPUX and Linux systems for Group.
Reports to
Group Core System Manager
The job (main areas of responsibility)
• HP/UX - Expert level, able to build and configure from scratch a HP/UX system, including experience with virtualization technologies for processing and IO (VPAR etc.)
• Able to build Linux systems using SUSE/RedHat on both bare metal and virtualized hosts
• Work with Network and Storage colleagues to identify performance bottlenecks and deliver resilient solutions based upon OS or Application resilience mechanisms such as Clustering and Scale Out
• Work with application colleagues to tune performance for hosting Oracle Database and SAP
• Server Hardware - You need to have some experience with maintaining hardware within a datacenter; racking, cabling etc.
Required mobility/travel days
Infrequent travel required, and when required will not consistently be more than 3 days at a time; however there may be a rare occasion where travel will be required in excess of 3 days.
Your experience (required previous work experience and competence)
• At least 10 years' experience in an IT technical background, with at least 5 years practical experience of managing HPUX environments and 2 years of managing Linux environments.
• Good up-to-date knowledge of current and developing Unix/Linux developments
• Advanced knowledge of virtualization options when running HPUX on Itanium Blades
• A clear and practical approach to deploying virtualized and non-virtualized solutions for Linux on premise and cloud based
• Advanced knowledge of clustering solutions for both HPUX and Linux hardware
• Practical experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting HPUX and Linux hardware

Your formal background (required qualifications and training)
• Preferably IT; Business; or Science degree, plus recent training in HPUX and RedHat or SUSE Linux that is relevant for this position
Other Areas
The ability to bring your experience in managing enterprise Unix system to bear on the Linux platform to deliver similar levels of availability and help foster trust within Nobia in the Platform
Personal characteristics
You should have a great attention to detail and accuracy, and be open and flexible to adapt to changing needs and situation.
Required language skills
English (written and spoken).
