Stockholm university announces a
Research position in marine climate modelling with focus on the
biogeochemistry of the Baltic Sea
Department of Meteorology, Stockholm University. Ref. No. SU 613-1342-11
Deadline for application: 15 June 2011.
The host department: The Department of Meteorology at Stockholm University (www.misu.su.se) is the largest meteorology department in Sweden and was founded by Carl-Gustaf Rossby in the late 1940s. Today we conduct research in chemical and dynamic meteorology, physical oceanography and atmospheric physics.
Subject description: The research will comprise marine biogeochemical climate 3D-modelling with focus on conditions in the Baltic Sea. The project is run under the auspices of the Baltic Ecosystem Adaptive Management project (BEAM;
www.smf.su.se/beam), which is a research programme on ecosystem-based management of the Baltic Sea. Given that the many problems of the Baltic Sea are so closely interconnected, interdisciplinary research that combines knowledge from different fields is necessary. An important task for this position will be to provide climate change scenarios for use by other researchers in the program. The research will be conducted in close cooperation with similar research at the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, led by Assoc. Prof. Markus Meier.
Eligibility: The applicant should have a PhD in physical oceanography, with experience of numerical 3D-modelling and, ideally, coupled biogeochemical-physical ocean modelling. The position is for two years with the possibility of prolongation under certain circumstances.
Application: All applications (including a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, copies of academic degrees and the names and contact information of two references) received before 15 June, 2011 will receive full consideration.
For more information, please contact Assoc. Prof. Markus Meier (
markus.meier@misu.su.se ) or Prof. Kristofer Döös (email:
doos@misu.su.se ).
Union representatives are: Bo Ekengren, SACO, Lisbeth Häggberg, ST, phn 08-16 2000
(vxl) and Gunnar Stenberg, SEKO, phn. 070-316 4341.
