Amazon is looking for a Chief Engineer to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team in Sweden. Data Center Engineering Operation teams maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. Specifically, this team works to ensure that the data center's MEP operates at 100% availability while maintaining first-class customer service to the teams and groups within the data centers.
The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The CE serves as an expert technical resource interacting with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and any third-party vendors. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations and to support Amazon within its owned and operated data centers.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. This equipment includes, but is not limited to:
Stand-by emergency generators
Low and medium voltage electrical systems
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)
Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
Water treatment systems
Building automation systems
Fire detection and air quality monitoring systems
Server racks

Key job responsibilities
Management and leadership of DCEO Engineering Team
Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of the critical facility operations and maintenance
Responsible for the on-site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, sub-contractors and vendors
Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
Data Centre capacity planning and reporting
May assist in the design and build out of new facilities
Work with IT managers and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability and efficiency
Deliver quality service and ensure all customer demands are met
Responsible for asset and inventory management_x000D_- Respond to out of hour's emergency calls - second level escalation point for Data Centre facilities related issues / failures.

A day in the life
Working semi-autonomously in operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center
Execution of project scopes of basic complexity
Providing timely escalation for all facilities-related issues within the data center
First-line troubleshooting and reporting of facility and high-criticality events within a pre-determined service level agreement (SLA)
Providing assistance to junior and peer EOTs
Oversight of third-party vendors to ensure that all work performed is in accordance with established safety protocols, best practices, and local legislation_x000D_Utilization of administrative tools for change management, ticketing, and asset management.
Flexibility for changes to work schedule depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12-hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule.

Basic qualifications
5+ years electrical, mechanical and/or controls relevant experience (degree or trade qualification preferred)
Demonstrate key electrical and mechanical competencies and theory_x000D_
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred qualifications
7+ years electrical, mechanical and/or controls relevant experience (degree or trade qualification preferred)- Professional Certification in Electrical, Mechanical or Controls engineering.
Working knowledge of generic mechanical-room infrastructure such as chillers, Air Handling Units, and fan controls.
Working knowledge of backup generator systems.
