Chalmers University of Technology invites two curious and creative researchers to join us as Assistant or Associate Professors and WISE Fellows in the area of Materials Science for a Sustainable Future. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with innovative ideas and a passion for scientific independence. Applications are welcome in all WISE research areas, but we are particularly interested in candidates focusing on additive manufacturing, construction materials, materials for energy storage, and AI for materials chemistry.

You will receive an attractive starting package via the WISE Fellows program. WISE, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and launched in 2022, is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden and encompasses major efforts at Sweden's foremost universities over the course of 10 years. The vision is a sustainable future through materials science. You can read more about WISE and the WISE Fellows program here.

Materials Science at Chalmers
Materials science has a strong tradition and big strategic relevance at Chalmers combining scientific excellence with societal impact. Our work spans from fundamental and curiosity-driven studies to industrial applications and development of new technologies.

Chalmers' strong position is reflected in its participation in major national initiatives such as the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE), the Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC), and the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) as well as research centers such as 2D-TECH, the Competence Center for Catalysis (KCK), FibRe - Design for Circularity, and the Center for Additive Manufacturing Metals (CAM2). These initiatives highlight our broad expertise and close collaboration with industry in, e.g., materials science, chemistry, physics, life sciences, and civil engineering. Our research community covers all aspects of advanced materials research - synthesis, processing, characterization, and property evaluation as well as theory and modeling. We educate materials scientists and engineers at the bachelor's and master's level driving the implementation of scientific advances in society.

At Chalmers, we host world-class infrastructure such as the Chalmers Materials Analysis Laboratory (CMAL), clean room facilities (Myfab) as well as advanced additive manufacturing and chemical imaging platforms. In addition we have access to outstanding national infrastructure including the MAXIV synchroton facility, the Swedish NMR center, and the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden (NAISS). You can read more about all our activities here.

What we offer
As a WISE Fellow at Chalmers, you will receive a four-year start-up package, including:

• Funding for your position
• Support for two doctoral students
• Support for two postdoctoral researchers (two years each)
• Leadership training to strengthen your development as a research leader and teacher

Assistant Professor positions are tenure-track, while Associate Professor positions are permanent appointments.

Chalmers is located on the beautiful Swedish west coast in the city of Gothenburg.
