This role is within our Consumer Commercial Digital Products (CCDP) team, which is using digital technologies to reinvent the experience of becoming a Volvo customer. There's no reason the experience of buying a car should be painful and difficult - it should be as enjoyable and exciting as actually having a new car. That is our mission. This is a rapidly growing team, and we are looking for outstanding people who will be some of the earliest hires in their function, helping to establish it at Volvo Cars.
Job Description
We are looking for a talented and passionate Android Software Engineer. You will collaborate with other mobile development teams to create great new user experiences for our customers. Your focus will be to greatly enhance and innovate user services that comes as a part of owning a Volvo.
You will also be responsible for hiring a team of software engineers to design and create new consumer applications that reach Volvo's customers. You should have start-up experience where you have quickly developed prototypes and catalysed product development in a fast paced, fluid environment. You are a hands-on developer while you are hiring and building the team. You are experienced with agile development and a champion of software development best practices
This position is located in Volvo's new Software Technology Centre in central Stockholm.
Responsibilities
* Design and build applications for the Android platform
* Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications
* Collaborate with other engineers to define, design, and ship new features
* Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs
* Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization
Skills
* Expert Java skills, designing and creating code, and served as a tech lead.
* Experience with Android frameworks and NDK.
* Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services
* Knowledge of other web technologies and UI/UX standards
* Understanding of Google's Android app design principles and interface guidelines
* Knowledge of user interface design and a passion for making delightful user experiences
* Knowledge of low-level C-based libraries is preferred
* Experience with performance and memory tuning with tools
* Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications
* Understanding of benchmarking and optimizing software
* Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (preferably Git)
* Ability to do technical interviewing, recruit, hire, and build a highly functioning team of software engineers.
