Since 1978, UMC has been dedicated to developing, supporting, and expanding the field of pharmacovigilance science and practice. As a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre, we support work around the world to examine the potential adverse effects of medicines and vaccines and contribute to safer, more informed patient care. About the roleOur Drug Dictionary Management section has expanded, and we need a new head of section to lead one of the teams. In this role, you will uphold quality standards, comply with regulations, meet customer expectations, and manage information effectively. You will help develop and maintain the UMC drug dictionaries, WHODrug and IDMP, and create processes and systems for the standardisation of medicinal product identification. You could also participate in outreach activities, such as webinars and presentations.

What you will doAs a manager in the Drug Dictionary Management section, you will lead a team of about 10 content specialists with pharmaceutical or pharmacy backgrounds. You will be part of the leadership team of Portfolio & Product Management (P&PM) and report to the head of the P&PM department. You will work closely with other managers to collaborate, prioritise tasks and improve processes. You will also work with the Portfolio Officer for Standardisation & Dictionaries and the Product Management team.
Your key responsibilities
- Allocating resources and technical expertise within the team to support product development.
- Overseeing daily operations, ensuring activities align with UMC policies and objectives.
- Equipping the team with the necessary tools, training, and knowledge to meet technical challenges.
- Owning and maintaining section processes, ensuring they are are described, followed, and updated.
- Recruiting, managing, and developing team members, promoting a positive work environment, and aligning with departmental objectives and UMC's strategy and values.
- Managing the section's budget, including forecasting, allocation, and monitoring of financial resources.
Who you are
- You have a university degree in pharmacology or life sciences, with experience in product development and life cycle management.
- You have previous line management experience and at least 5 years of experience in life sciences or pharmaceuticals, ideally in a global or regulated environment.
- You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- You excel at collaboration, inspiring and influencing people to work together towards common goals.
- You are skilled in coaching and managing people.
Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a non-profit foundation established in 1978 through an agreement between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the government of Sweden as a WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring.
UMC is custodian of the WHO global database of adverse event reports for medicines and vaccines and strengthens global safety surveillance through science and innovation, signal analysis and pharmacovigilance tool development, standardisation with the WHODrug dictionary, and education and communication.
UMC's working language is English. We normally apply a probationary period to new appointments.
