Sankt Ignatios College (Sankt Ignatios folkhögskola) is a leading theological institution in Sweden. The overall purpose is to provide education of future priests and parish teachers, with a skill to interact with Church and Society. Our most valuable asset is our students who, with their willingness to develop and learn, make Sankt Ignatios College one of Scandinavia's more prominent theological schools. The School has five departments: Allmän kurs, Ukrainian Democracy and Folkbildning, Syriac Christian Studies, Tewahedo Christian Studies, and Byzantine Christian Studies. The latter department is a joint department with several churches working together, such as the Antiochian Orthodox Church, the Georgian Orthodox Church, and the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Sankt Ignatios College and the Department of Byzantine Christian Studies is now looking for a teacher in Pastoral Theology, who can also act as a chaplain for Arabic speaking students with a Byzantine tradition, as well as assisting the Antiochian Church in re-building their diocese. The successful candidate must speak Arabic fluently (native language is a merit), as well as English and French fluently (the other languages used in the Middle East). The candidate must have an education in theology equivalent to a Bachelor degree, but with extensive experience working with youths or charitable work. The position also involves re-building the Antiochian Orthodox Church in Scandinavia, which requires that the successful candidate is an ordained priest within the Antiochian Patriarchate. Since the position also contains developing the physical seminaries of the school, the successful candidate must have experience woking with how to plan and develop buildings and the use of these buildings.
Subject Orientation: Pastoral Theology). The area of study has three elements: 1) The theological motivation behind charitable work and similar work; 2) Managent theories of how to conduct charitable work, youth work ansd similar work; 4) Training future priests, teachers and leaders from the Middle Ast and the concerned diaspora.
Tasks: The position includes the teaching of courses related to the subject orientation and, in addition, taking on course responsibilities such as examination, supervision and administration. The post involves collaboration according to the following: First, in relation to the Department of Byzantine Christian Studies, Sankt Ignatios College; Secondly, in collaboration with the Antiochian Patriarchate build the Church in Scandinavia. Thirdly, in relation to the school at large contribute to devloping the physical seminaries at Sankt Ignatios College.
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must have a BA or similar in theology, and be an ordained priest. In addition, the applicant must have documented personal qualities required to adequately fulfill the role. The ability to teach in Arabic, French and English is also required. On top of this the candidate should either be experienced in planning or leading the construction of dormitories or similar, or most willing to learn to be a project leader in this regard.
Assessment grounds: Education and personal qualities are of equal importance for the position.
Educational skills: When selecting among eligible applicants, importance will be placed on the quality of the applicant's educational merits.
Personal qualities: The applicant's personal qualities will be assessed primarily in qualitative terms. The applicant should also be able to demonstrate a sensitivity in building relations, foster trust as well a know-how in achieving mutual understanding and consensus. These abilities should be well documented, or be supported with good references.
Other skills: Administrative and management skills are also important. Such skills should include a capacity for project planning and an ability to cooperate. The position is a 60% permanent position, starting from August 1st 2023, with six months of probational employment.
