Unit Program Leader - Powertrain NVH

Powertrain Strategy and Concept is a part of Volvo Car Groups Powertrain Engineering. We are responsible for Powertrain Strategy, Powertrain Concept and Advanced Engineering, Powertrain Attributes in strategy/annual and concept phases and Powertrain Geometry. Our department is also responsible for the total order book of Powertrain Engineering and for Powertrain Design & Development cost estimator. Powertrain attributes is a new section within Powertrain Strategy and Concept department, with main responsibility for Performance, Drivability, Emissions and Powertrain NVH Management.

Powertrain NVH Project Management is a small and nimble team (3 people) within the Powertrain Attributes section. The team mission is to ensure that the development of next generation engines reflect our brand essence of 'Designed Around You' and that all attributes deliver a true luxury experience in performance, CO2 emission and NVH. We oversee the complete development work from concept level, supporting the requirement setting process as well as push for activities during and until the very end of development phase, including activities around management drives, appraisals and press launches. All activities aiming to balance the attribute NVH regarding to time, technology and cost.

As Unit Program Leader you will lead and facilitate development work within Powertrain areas, where NVH is a critical attribute, especially in early development phases. Powertrain Unit facilitates lot of designing groups. Department NVH-Center within Vehicle Engineering Unit, facilitate expertise and resources related to NVH development work and testing. For each critical NVH issue we manage the team needs, including all relevant attribute and design areas, in order to get to conclusion. This is where you step in, setting up and managing the work to be concluded, securing a good balance between attributes, design, time and cost. It is highly important for you to support the designing teams by interpreting NVH analyses and data when critical, in order to give directions to the design teams.

Main responsibilities

• Integration in concept and development cross functional team both at Powertrain and Complete Vehicle
• Lead the NVH and sound quality work, cross functionally during the design phase within powertrain
• Project manage design activities required to reach over all NVH and sound quality attribute goals, both at Powertrain and Complete Vehicle
• Secure deliveries on time, to the right cost and with the correct technology
• Report status at project & line management reviews together with recommendation on further activities to reach over all goals
• Guide and support Powertrain line organisation areas, for them to get a deeper knowledge on NVH & sound quality and how it relates to their own systems

Required qualifications

• Masters Degree in Mech/Phys/Math with in depth studies in acoustics and vibrations
• 5 years experience from design work within Powertrain or similar
• 2 years experience from project management and/or line management
• Able to communicate with and influence senior management decision making
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Drivers license and great interest in engines, vehicles and extensive driving
