Level of thesis project: Master thesis.
Number of students in the project: 1 student
Target:
This project is intended give insight of important mechanical aspects in the interaction between the Mobile Miner machine and rock to enable optimization of the design.
Background:
The tunnel boring machine, Mobile Miner, is a revolutionary technology to excavate rock underground. This is a technique that enables the excavation process to be safer, to have less emissions and to be automated. Therefore this technology is strategical for Epiroc. The design and structural properties of the machine have influence on load variations while cutting and therefore also the life of the product. To fully understand the load variations due to the design and mechanical properties of the system is important to enable optimization of the design. This way both life and performance of the machine can be maximized.
Mission:
Your mission in this project will be to derive of a mechanical model for a representative Multibody System - judged based on ongoing measurement analysis and FE-analysis. Then by using this model investigate the resulting load variations dependence on structure properties, design and rock properties through simulations. This project will be considered a success when, based on the insight from the analysis, recommendations on how structure properties should be matched with a specific design and application.
Qualification:
We are looking for one goal oriented and humble student who is self-starter, put attention to details and with a strong sense of responsibility.
