IRF in Lund carries out basic and applied research in solar physics and space weather. We are a Regional Warning Center within International Space Environment Service and run Swedish Space Weather Center. We are involved in several international projects with national funding and funding from ESA and EU. Our research relies heavily on modelling, analysis and data acquisition. To support our research we seek an engineer that will develop and implement code, manage databases, and develop and maintain general IT infrastructure. We work exclusively in a Mac OS X environment.

Qualifications:

MSc in information systems and technologies or similar.

The candidate should have experience in several of the following:

• Programming in Bash, SQL (MySQL and PostgreSQL), Mathematica, Matlab, Python, Java, C, C++.
• System administration (installation, backup, security etc).
• Web applications (GlassFish, Django, PHP, Wordpress, JavaScript).
• Experience in data acquisition, transmission, downloading and handling of solar and geomagnetic data.
• Development of scientific applications.
• Visualisation of geomagnetic and solar data, both observed and calculated.
• Experience of space weather related projects.

It is also important that the candidate is socially skilled and can work within the group.

The position is available at the office in Lund at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) and it is a temporary employment with one year duration starting as soon as possible.
