Expansive Worlds is a creative division of Avalanche Studios Group and a leading developer and publisher of outdoor games. Since 2009, Expansive Worlds has been devoted to delivering highly immersive outdoor gaming experiences for millions of players and is best known for the long-standing and successful theHunter franchise.

We are now looking for a Technical Director to work with us in Malmö or Stockholm on a new unannounced project.

The Position

As the Technical Director of this project, you will lead the technical leads and senior developers within the team. You will play a key role in bridging creative vision, technical implementation and production requirements by setting technical standards, identifying constraints, driving innovation, identifying synergies between teams and ultimately supporting building a high-quality game, to quality and budget. As with all Expansive Worlds titles this project is designed as a Live Service from the ground up, so part of your responsibility will be not only to prepare the project for launch, but also to establish the right technology and processes to support the project in a number of years of post-launch service.

You will work closely with, and be supported by, the Expansive Worlds Division Technical Director who will align your goals, both personal and project, with the goals of the division and Avalanche Studios Group overall. To succeed in this role, you have to be passionate about games technology, be the natural technical leader, have excellent people and communication skills, and be devoted to making natural, expansive and immersive games.

Responsibilities

• Be the technical stakeholder for a new project and set the project up for success.

• Set technical standards and the goals for the project's architecture, pipelines and technical processes.

• Support and get the best out of the project code lead(s) and project code teams.

• Enable communication across technical disciplines and support the sharing of technical knowledge and code between projects and divisions.

• Be responsible for the flow of technology into and out of the project, supporting ASG's technology sharing strategy. Proactively support leveraging technology from other relevant projects in the portfolio.

• Manage internal and external technology dependencies and risks, and help with the creation of mitigation plans.

• Evaluate both internal and external technology solutions.

• Work with and maintain positive relationships with our Division Management team, and internal self-publishing facilities.

Required Qualifications

• Worked from start to finish on at least one commercial game, preferably including console/limited hardware release, with a strong understanding of the game's architecture, the engine, middleware, and their constraints.

• Strong technical background with solid professional experience in C/C++ programming.

• Practical experience from different areas of game development, as well as industry experience working as a Lead Programmer, Associate Technical Director, or Technical Director.

• Strategic mindset and ability to manage stakeholders at all levels.

• Self-motivated, strong work ethic, able to work independently.

• Proven team management and inter-discipline communication skills.

• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience working on Live Service games.

• Working knowledge of Python.

• Knowledge of CI/CD workflows.

• In-depth knowledge of game engine architectures.

• In-depth knowledge of current generation console architectures and future architectural trends.

• Experience working with open-world games

• Experience working with multiplayer games

• Experience working with a proprietary engine.
