hela Sverige As Technical Development Manager, you play an important role by supporting Special Steels customers and local Sales in the Middle East and North Africa with your technical expertise. You help build customer value and profitability by driving upgrading towards lighter, stronger and more sustainable steel solutions. Initial location is Oxelösund Sweden, but with mutual agreement, the location of the position may transition to UAE, Egypt after some time.
About the position
SSAB Special Steels is replacing a team member changing position inside the company in the Technical Support function for Tech Support, Turkey & MEA. In this talented international team you will be in charge of the technical development plan in the assigned market. You will be an expert in technical matters related to Special Steels products and educate how our customers use them. That includes to define and execute, together with sales, the actions in the market to technically promote our business, generate upgrading projects, assist our customers in those upgrading projects, technical education, problem solving, etc. The TDM will also be the link between the market and the mills and collaborate with other functions like Knowledge Service Center, Product development and Production.
We have an extensive steel grade portfolio that can support a diverse customer base. This role as a TDM can be reactive when solving problems and also proactive to drive new business opportunities and product improvements. Duties generally derive from technical responsibilities related to customer engagement, project management, opportunity development and product innovation. For example, SSAB steel grades can increase effectiveness in workshops or the performance of end products, but customers may not understand the value of upgrading or how to overcome the technical challenges of changing materials.

Your qualifications
We expect you to have experience and strong drive to work with technical questions in the steel business and a genuine interest to learn more about steel production, properties, and user benefits. You have graduated as M.Sc. in Technology (Mechanical, Metallurgical or Mining Engineering) from any University in Europe and have working experience of approximately at least 3-5 years in similar fields. Experience with structural design of equipment made from steel is highly appreciated.
Regarding language skills you must speak and read English and Arabic (both expected). You must be comfortable in delivering presentations to internal colleagues and customers. It is highly valuable if you also have French (wish). Swedish language will be counted as benefit/very interesting.
You are expected to spend up to 75% of working time traveling for business. The position will be based in Oxelösund as a start, but you will probably do a transition to a UAE, Egypt based position later.
