AstraZeneca is looking for a motivated and knowledgeable Solid State Scientist to join our Pharmaceutical Sciences team in Gothenburg. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make an impact by analyzing and characterizing drug substances and drug products using advanced solid-state techniques.
Brief information about the assignment:
Location: Gothenburg (Mölndal)
Type of employment: Consultancy assignment
Assignment duration: 2025-03-10 to 2025-12-31, with the possibility of extension
About the role
As a Solid State Scientist at AstraZeneca, you will work in a laboratory-based environment as part of cross-functional pharmaceutical development project teams. You will focus on analyzing solid-state properties of drug substances and products, using both experimental and computational techniques. Your work will support the development of pharmaceutical formulations and processes, contributing to new medicinal products across oral, inhaled, and parenteral drug delivery systems.
Key responsibilities include:
• Conducting solid-state characterization using methods like X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and moisture sorption analysis.
• Evaluating the solid-state properties of materials to support formulation and process development.
• Contributing to the development of solid-state techniques and computational methods.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver key scientific results for drug product development.
• Participating in scientific discussions and external collaborations to advance the solid-state science field.
About you
We are looking for a hands-on, collaborative, and scientifically curious individual with a strong background in solid-state characterization. You should have experience in laboratory-based work and be eager to contribute to the development of new methods to support innovative drug development. Strong communication skills and a dynamic mindset are essential to thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Qualifications:
• PhD and/or MSc or equivalent experience in a subject area relevant to solid state or materials science and proven hands-on laboratory experience relevant to the position.
• Basic technical skills in solid state characterization of drug substance/intermediates/final product functionality (e.g. X-ray diffraction techniques, thermal analysis, moisture sorption analysis etc.).
• Fundamental knowledge of polymorph screening, understanding complex polymorph landscape maps and solid form selection activities.
• Working knowledge of software suites such as Materials studio and CCDC
