To be successful as a Software Engineer you have proven advanced training in computer science or any engineering equivalent. We believe you have minimum of 5 years of experience as a software engineer with similar level of experience/knowledge in the specific tech stack for the particular product or platform. In addition you have demonstrable experience in working in an Agile and DevOps working set-up.
You have extensive knowledge in the following:
• software engineering principles
• software engineering practices including BDD, TDD, test automation, DevOps, code versioning, with knowledge and experience of using industry standard toolsets
You have knowledge in the following:
• experience of working in agile/iterative software development teams, with an emphasis on self-organisation and delivery to agreed commitments
• design and architecture concepts (i.e. microservices) and ability to apply knowledge within the development cycle
• experience with agile development practices, in which requirements and solutions evolve through the collaborative effort of self-organizing cross-functional teams
• the respective technology capability area's products and services, as well as relevant cloud services
As a person you have a proven ability to develop high quality code using and applying good practices. You actively acquire new knowledge, skills, champion new methods, digital systems and processes to improve performance that will make you be able to change direction as appropriate based on new ideas, approaches and strategies. To work in agile and continuous improvement within the software engineering function, encouraging simplicity, efficiency, ownership, accountability makes you easy to collaborate with others (incl. virtual) to achieve goals.
ABOUT THE JOB
On the position as a Software Engineer you will be accountable for high quality software development and deployment at IKEA and for setting the standards for software engineering using agile practices that support delivery and rapid, continuous, frequent software delivery. You will specifically design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software used to support the IKEA business in a fast changing digital world.
You will:
• be responsible for the development of high quality (software) code which has been tested and is ready to be shipped
• work in agile teams in across the capability areas, contributing to the development and maintenance of products and solutions
• apply and adhere to good practice software engineering practices (e.g. DRY principles, TDD and BDD, continuous integration, automated tests, pair programming, code reviews) within an agile/iterative development approach
• provide support and guidance as needed to other developers within the development team encouraging good practices
• ensure they have a good understanding of each user story and the expected outcome, asking for further detail from the Product Analyst/Manager as required
• contribute to the continuous development of standards against which software development should take place as well as exploring and bring in new technologies to boost innovation and development productivity
• work closely together with other software engineers and cross functions to produce all required design specifications and ensure that digital solutions work together and fulfil business needs
• oversee the various solutions being developed, within their product area, incl. code-reviews to ensure technical feasibility and that solutions are optimized for speed, scalability and reusability
• serve as the lead for the software engineering competence chapter, including ensuring appropriate HR support, providing trainings and developing criteria for skill assessing chapter members as well as lead, coach and develop the chapter members, promoting best practice in software engineering and continually benchmarking against industry standards
• in close cooperation with Product Managers and group People & Culture, hire new co-workers for the chapter when capability areas express need for people
• update the common Group Digital site on standards and methods when necessary
• work across initiatives within INGKA Group, steering towards data-driven solutions
• work across initiatives within INGKA Group, driving the development of different engineering patterns
