At the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry, we conduct education and internationally leading research on human behavior, neuropsychiatric disease processes as well as psychiatric treatment and diagnostics.
The research at the section is translational and spans from cell and animal models to clinical studies and extensive epidemiological research. We conduct successful research in areas such as bipolar disorder, addiction disorders, aging, neurochemistry and forensic psychiatry.
Subject area
Psychiatry with focus on affective disorders.
Subject area description
Affective disorders are common psychiatric conditions that include depression and bipolar disorder. Research on affective disorders includes clinical trials, epidemiological studies, validation of assessment instruments, pathoetiological studies and systematic meta-analyses.
Duties
The tasks include teaching and course responsibility for courses within the subject of psychiatry with focus on affective disorders. The tasks also include teaching at the medical program and within the Professional Development (PU) stream as well as supervision and examination of students at advanced and postgraduate level, as well as postdoctoral fellows. Teaching also involves course planning, administration and development work.
The applicant shall conduct research within the subject area of affective disorders, seek external researc funding nationally and internationally, be a research group leader, and independently produce scientific articles. The applicant shall follow the research development of importance to the subject within society.
Clinical service as a senior consultant physician/specialist physician at the Department of Affective Psychiatry, Sahlgrenska University Hospital is part of the duties and the applicant must, in dialogue with patients, relatives and teams, make assessments, investigations and treatments of patients with affective disorders in inpatient or outpatient care.
The tasks may also include academic management and administrative tasks in, for example, committees linked to teaching and research within the Department, the Institute and the Faculty.
Teaching takes place in Swedish and English.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations. According to the Higher Education Act, Chapter 3, Section 8, joint employment may only be held by a person who meets the eligibility requirements for both employments.
Completed doctoral degree in a medical subject and demonstrated pedagogical skills as well as specialist medical competence in psychiatry with Swedish medical license is a requirement. Since the employment is combined with an employment as a specialist physician/senior physician at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, it is required that, according to the National Board of Health and Welfare, the applicant has the necessary knowledge in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian for the profession in order to obtain a Swedish medical license.
Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are stated in the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.
In the assessment, the pedagogical and the scientific skills will be considered and will be weighted equally. Secondly, clinical skills, administrative skills, and the ability to collaborate will be considered.
When assessing the pedagogical skill, particular importance will be attached to documented ability to lead courses at first and second cycle level, supervise students and experience of course management in the subject area. Pedagogical development work and evaluation of teaching within the subject will also be considered. Special emphasis will be given to documented ability to lead courses in psychiatry within the medical program. The skills must be documented in such a way that the ability can be assessed.
When assessing the scientific skill, special emphasis will be placed on the ability to lead and conduct research on affective disorders. Documented ability to lead a research group, ability to obtain research grants in national or international competition as well as the quality and originality of publications in peer reviewed international journals will be considered, especially in the subject area.
Clinical skill is assessed through documented work as a specialist physician/senior physician with assessment, investigation, and treatment of patients with affective disorders, documented participation in development work that can contribute to the educational work. Experience from work in on-call operations within affective disorders is meritorious.
Administrative skill and the ability to cooperate and collaborate are also important for employment, particularly in the subject area of affective disorders.
Docent competence is meritorious.
