Welcome to the Institute of Medicine. We conduct interdisciplinary research and education that spans from molecule to society, in close collaboration with healthcare providers in Region Västra Götaland, and in particular Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Research within the institute covers several widespread diseases, including osteoporosis; diabetes; and obesity; as well as blood diseases; hormonal diseases; rheumatology; allergology; diseases of the liver, stomach and intestines; and nutritional health. Much of our teaching takes place in the medical and dietitian programs and in public and global health.
We are recruiting a senior lecturer who can take responsibility for teaching specific segments within the medical program.

Subject area description
For this position as a senior lecturer in internal medicine, applicants must be specialists in one of the following areas, according to the National Board of Health and Welfare's description: emergency healthcare, internal medicine, endocrinology and diabetology, geriatrics, medical gastroenterology and hepatology, or renal medicine.
Upon appointment, the employment may be specified in terms of a subject area that corresponds with the candidate's specialist competence.
Duties
Duties include teaching in internal medicine and semester management of the medical program and/or the KUL program at Sahlgrenska Academy. Student supervision and practice-based teaching in collaboration with university healthcare within Region Västra Götaland, as well as other teaching duties, may also be included.
The position also includes conducting research in accordance with one's own research program and in collaboration with others in relevant subject areas. The successful applicant is expected to actively seek external research funding to establish and support a successful research group.
Clinical duties will be carried out within the framework of a combined position as a specialist/senior physician, determined in conjunction with Region Västra Götaland.
This position also includes some administration related to teaching, research, and clinical duties.
Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.
According to the Higher Education Act, Chapter 3, Section 8, joint employment may only be held by a person who meets the eligibility requirements for both positions.
Applicants must have a doctorate in a medical subject or another subject that the employer finds equivalent, demonstrated pedagogical skills, and a medical degree.
Additional requirements include specialist competence in internal medicine and specialist competence in one of the following areas: emergency care, endocrinology and diabetology, geriatrics, medical gastroenterology and hepatology, or renal medicine.
Applicants must be able to teach in Swedish and English. In accordance with the National Board of Health and Welfare's guidelines, applicants must meet the requirements of adequate knowledge in Swedish, Danish, or Norwegian to obtain a Swedish medical license.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.
The primary assessment criteria are scientific and pedagogical competence, which are weighted equally, followed by clinical competence.
When assessing scientific competence, emphasis will be placed on publications in leading international journals. Greater weight will be given to the quality and impact of the publications rather than the total number, and to the quality of the applicant's proposed research program and its relevance to the subject area. A clear progression of skill, with a focus on scientific merit from the last 10 years, will be given the greatest weight. The ability to obtain external research grants in national and international competition will be an advantage.
When assessing pedagogical competence, emphasis will be placed on documented pedagogical training, experience in bedside teaching, and diagnostics in medical education and student supervision. Experience in pedagogical development and course leadership will be particularly advantageous.
When assessing clinical competence, emphasis will be placed on clinical experience and competence in one of the indicated specialist areas. Experience in scientific and clinical leadership in national and international networks is an advantage.
Administrative experience and the ability to collaborate and work as a member of a team are advantageous.
