The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 450 million SEK in total assets.
Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Biomedicine, Department Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Mucin Biology Groups is recruiting a scientist for a temporary position as the holder tries another employment. The laboratory uses English as the main language of communication and proficient in spoken and written English is essential. Own research and general laboratory management. The work involves independently conducting projects that address what different domains in the gel-forming mucins and related proteins look like with the help of cryo-electron microscopy. The work also involves general laboratory care as labmanager. The researcher must independently analyze the results that emerge and use different types of structure modeling programs
Qualifications
A PhD degree in a relevant field. Researcher with an extensive experience of working with structural biology. Particular emphasis is placed on the ability to independently express, establish and purify different subdomains of these mucins and then study them with cryo-electron microscopy. Collaboration with other researchers who do structural analysis with NMR, neutron scattering and X-ray crystallography is important. Competence for own, independent cryo-electron microscopy work is crucial. Particular emphasis is also placed on the ability to independently analyze the results that emerge and to use different types of structure modeling programs. Great emphasis is placed on the ability to work together and the ability to work independently.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 8 months and full-time with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
