At the Institute of Biomedicine we study the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how cells interact with each other and with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, find new ways to diagnose disorders and to treat them.
The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 370 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.
Job assignments
The successful applicant will lead a research group focusing on brain tumour epigenetics and be responsible for developing the group and its research activities. Responsibilities additionally include PhD and postdoc supervision, teaching and administrative tasks.
Techniques and methods used in the group includes establishing and growing cancer stem cell cultures, orthotopic in vivo models (e.g. zebrafish and mouse), omics techniques (DNA methylation-arrays, bs-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq and ChIP-seq), single-cell analyses, general cell and molecular biology methods etc.
The group will work closely with the clinic and the candidate will take part in and/or lead local and national studies as well as clinical trials.
Qualifications
PhD in Medicine. An international postdoctoral experience from a leading scientific environment is a strong merit. The candidate should have a strong publication track record with several last-author publications and independent funding. Documented experience in all abovementioned methods and tasks is a prerequisite. The candidate should have documented leadership and teaching qualifications including PhD supervision and academic assignments.
Prerequisites for the position is that the candidate have a strong personal motivation, and is fluent in English and Swedish (both spoken and written). A major emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
Employment
The employment is a full time permanent position, placed at the Intsitute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed. Probationary employment could be applied.
