The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 370 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.
Job assignments
Research position at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center within Molecular pathology with focus on translational breast cancer research
The long term scientific goal within this project is to identify and develop novel breast cancer therapies and diagnostic methods specifically focusing on cancer stem cell propagation in relevant microenvironments. The project will be focused on cellular communication systems mediating cancer stem cell activating or inhibitory signals in different model systems.
Key methods that will be used in combination with primary breast cancer cells and functional cancer stem cell enriching assays are PCR/RNA-sequencing, explant growth of primary tumours, breast cancer scaffold cultures and patient derived xenograft (PDX) cultures. The project will be based at Sahlgrenska Cancer Center consisting of basic and clinical researchers dedicated to translational cancer research.
To independently and together with other coworkers carry out research of a high international standard and report research findings in articles and at conferences. Supervision of students and shared responsibility for laboratory techniques and equipment will also be included in job assignments.
Qualifications
PhD and work experience in a for the project relevant subject. Excellent ability to cooperate will be crucial. Emphasis will be set on personal qualities.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 22 months and full-time with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
