In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. The Institute is composed of the following five departments: .The Department of Infectious Diseases .The Department of Microbiology and Immunology .The Department of Pathology and Genetics .The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine .The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology At present, the institute has about 350 employees and approximately 290 million SEK in total assets.

Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter: Animal experimental and laboratory-based immunologic vaccine research within the framework of a larger research project, which focuses on the development of mucosally administered vaccines and adjuvants and investigations of their mechanisms of action. The position will primarily apply mouse studies of effects and mechanisms of selected mucosal adjuvants, both of adjuvants selected to enhance the immunological response and others chosen to provide regulation/suppression of adverse immune reactions. Responsibilities include immunization of laboratory animals (mainly mice) orally, sublingually, intranasally or by injection; blood sampling, killing and development of various organs; isolation of cells, especially different lymphocyte populations from different organs; adoptive cell transfer to recipient mice; state-of-art laboratory studies with immune cells: flow cytometric analyses; in vitro cultivation, analyses of cytokines and other cell products, studies of gene expression etc.; assaying antibodies in blood serum and tissue extracts; guidance and supervision of technical staff and/or students in the above work; and compilation and reporting of results also in manuscript form for scientific publication.
Beskrivning av kvalifikationer: PhD in immunology or related subject (education to and work as a medical doctor is additionally meritorious); strong research qualifications and publications in the field; approved animal training for independent animal experimentation; documented professional experience in the specified duties.
