In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. The Institute is composed of the following five departments: .The Department of Infectious Diseases .The Department of Microbiology and Immunology .The Department of Pathology and Genetics .The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine .The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology At present, the institute has about 350 employees and approximately 290 million SEK in total assets A research group engaged in international medical research lead by Dr Niclas karlsson is now looking for a researcher in glycopioinformatics.
The work is varied and consists mainly of: .Maintenance and development of sql database (UniCarb-DB) .Java programming for developing new search modules for UniCarb-DB .Implement reporting guidelines for mass spectrometric glykomic data in UniCarb-DB .Present and participate in international meetings and interact with partners in Switzerland and Japan .Assist with static help and display of glycodata for users within BioMS The group has been committed to generating glycomic MS data for system glycology in an EU consortium and these data must be distributed to partners and the public. We intend to use the UniCarb-DB infrastructure within GU to do this and therefore need a person who can help us build and develop the database. We will also use the same database to convey data for customers who use the BioMS infrastructure for glycomics currently set up at GU.
We are looking for a PhD in the field of bioinformatics. You should have knowledge about glycopiology and mass spectrometry and master SQL databases and Java programming. You are trustworthy, responsible and committed. Furthermore, you are service-oriented, accurate and able to independently structure and organize your daily work, as well as collaborate with others. We value personal appropriateness highly.
