The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 37 000 students and 6 000 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future. The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of microorganisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. At present, the institute has about 350 employees and approximately 290 million SEK in total assets.

Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter:
The researcher employed is expected to decipher how the yeast microtubule cytoskelleton impinge on protein quality control, with special emphasis on aggregation of misfolded proteins, transport of protein aggregates to protein quality control compartments in the cells, and the asymmetrical inheritance of aggregates during cell division. Further, the project will analyze how cellular aging is affecting the function of microtubule and how this, in turn, may influence the buildup of cytotoxic aggregates, including model disease proteins of human neurological disorders, during cellular aging. The job includes research and supervision of doctoral candidates as well as postdoctoral fellows. The researcher is also expected to perform some teaching at the undergraduate levels.

Beskrivning av kvalifikationer:
An achieved doctoral degree in the area of yeast molecular biology/biochemistry is compulsory for the position and the documented expertise should be in relevant areas according to the specific position and project description stated here. We are looking for a biochemist with well documented, international experience, in yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) molecular biology, genetics and strain constructions, including mutations in essential genes. The successful applicant should also have experience in protein chemistry, including the use of standard expression systems (bacteria and insect cells), chromatography for protein separation, light microscopy (confocal, fluorescence, TIRF), and electron microscopy. Documented (peer-reviewed original papers) expertise in working with yeast microtubule cytoskeleton and cell division/cell cycle is a requirement.
