SEI is an independent, international research institute founded in 1989. Its mission is to support decision-making and induce change towards sustainable development around the world by providing integrative knowledge that bridges science and policy in the field of environment and development. SEI is ranked as the 2nd most influential environment think tank in the world in the Global Go To Think Tank Report, compiled by the University of Pennsylvania's Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program.
Profile
SEI is recruiting an independent and motivated junior researcher with a background in sustainable sanitation , integrated natural resource management, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), or related areas, to support our innovative work on making sanitation more sustainable. Our work is focused on low and middle income countries, so the candidate should have a strong interest in and experience from development issues.
The recruitment is part of a broader strategy to strengthening the sanitation work at SEI, which is done through our new SEI Initiative on Sustainable Sanitation . The Initiative, launched in the beginning of 2015 with a program horizon to 2019, is a global venture with special focus on sub-Saharan Africa. This initiative will stress the case for ?productive? sanitation, with a focus on hygienic management and safe, efficient use of sanitation waste products, e.g. for energy and agricultural production. It has both strong research and communications components; hence the candidate will be involved in a diverse set of stimulating tasks and missions.
Duties and responsibilities:
In collaboration with a team of researchers, the candidate will undertake the following tasks:
• Carry out independent applied research and implementation projects dealing with sustainable sanitation, aiming for improved health, equity, livelihoods, natural resource management, and environmental quality
• Contribute to relevant project proposals and tenders in order to raise external funds
• Compilation and synthesis of project results into communication products (e.g. briefs, reports and scientific papers)
• Participation in capacity building and training activities
• Contribute to networking, knowledge management and outreach activities
• Travel on duty when required.
