We are seeking a research assistant in behavioural ecology to be part of a newly established research group to investigate the causes and consequences of cooperative breeding in African mole-rats. The research assistant will be involved in field work in Africa, molecular laboratory work (at LNU and with international collaborators) and data analysis and collection. Our research group investigates the evolutionary causes and consequences of cooperative breeding and ageing in African mole-rats.
The research assistant will be part of EEMiS, a multidisciplinary centre of excellence within Linnaeus University, Kalmar, Sweden (www.lnu.se). The research assistant will be part of a large collaborative project that involves several international collaborators. The research assistant needs to be enthusiastic to conduct field work in Africa and to work in laboratories of international collaborators.
Requirements
A master degree (or equivalent) in a biological discipline, with specialization in molecular medicine and systems biology or molecular biology, previous experience with using molecular techniques such as DNA purification, PCR & qPCR and gel electrophoresis.Excellent English skills is also required.

It is desirable that the applicant has experience with fieldwork in remote locations and has worked on wild animal populations and has a background in molecular biology. Experience with working on small mammals and experience with field work in Africa and/or experience with African mole-rats is considered an asset. French language skills are an advantage and it will be important that the research assistant can demonstrate their ability to work collaboratively in a field project.
The position is advertised for 12 months with a possibility to be extended up to 2 years (50% of full time).
