The Department of Neuroscience includes several research groups working on different aspects of nervous system function, both under normal conditions and in various disease states. Research projects include a broad range of studies on the molecular and cellular levels, networks of neurons, and the organization of the nervous system as a whole. The Department has a flat organization with 40 research group leaders, of which 24 are full professors, and 65 PhD students.

Teaching represents a fundamental activity at the Department, which participates in several undergraduate courses and postgraduate education programs. Each year approximately 15 students receive their PhD from our Department and many of our graduates have gone onto distinguished careers in the academic or private sector.

Division

The research group of prof.

Fredrik Ullén focuses on the neuropsychology of expertise, in particular musical expertise. We address a number of questions relating to musical engagement and expertise using a combination of techniques from behavior genetics, experimental psychology, neuroimaging, and physiology. For example, we investigate the effects of musical training on neuroanatomy and brain function. Other research lines concern the learning and performance of auditory-motor skills and the neural basis of creativity, which we study both from an individual difference perspective and experimentally, using musical improvisation as a model behavior. We are currently expanding these projects with a need to recruit a research assistant that would have a main responsibility for recruitment of participants, scheduling of experiments, and data collection using MRI, as well as behavioral experiments.

Duties
Primary duties will be to administer and conduct data collections in behavioral and MRI experiments, including participant recruitment and scheduling of experiments.

Entry requirements
The applicant should have basic theoretical knowledge of neuroanatomy and cognitive neuroscience, as well as previous experience in conducting MRI experiments. Previous experience of research on skill learning, as well as expertise in using software such as E-prime, Presentation, MATLAB, SPM, FSL, and MRtrix3 are a merit. Good logistic skills and previous experience in coordinating recruitment of participants are valued. The candidate should be reliable, meticulous and cooperative, with an ability to work without requiring extensive training or the need for close supervision. Evidence of the ability to interact with researchers from a range of academic disciplines is important.

Application process

An employment application must contain the following documents in Swedish or English:
