The Environment, Safety & Health Division at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Radiation Protection Laboratory Manager.

Description of directorate/division
The Environment, Safety & Health Division, reporting to the associate Director of ESH and Quality, is responsible for activities connected to safety (radiological safety, occupational safety, fire protection, emissions etc.) of the personnel as well as the public. Since July 1st 2017, the ESH Division has been re-organized forming two groups: the Radiation Protection (RP) Group and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Group. Presently, we are 8 persons in the RP group and in total 19 persons within the ESH Division.

Description of main responsibilities
The new position of Radiation Protection Laboratory Manager will be part of the services provided by the radiation protection group. The provision of expertise in the area of radioactive sources handling, transport of radioactive material, management of the RP laboratories and setting up procedures for this that will be part of the management system.

As a Radiation Protection Laboratory Manager in the RP Group, you will:

• Be responsible for set up and manage the Environmental and Radiological Protection analytical laboratories, including the procurement of relevant equipment and the set up of the required services.
• Manage radioactive sources as well as define the requirements for the radioactive source database and operational procedures for sources and handling.
• Act as a Radiation Protection Officer and assist the Radiation Protection Expert Function in the development of the management system for radiation protection at ESS.
• Strengthen the Radiation Protection group as an expert in radiation protection
• Participate in the implementation of a safety culture in regards to radiation protection matters at ESS.

Qualifications & Competencies
You have a well-developed ability to listen, consult others and communicate proactively with a high level of integrity.

• Minimum BSc in Radiation Protection or relevant field.
• Holding expert certification in radiation protection from a national institute.
• ADR advisor certification for the transport of radioactive materials.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months probation period. The position is to be filled as soon as possible. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
