The need for more optimized designs, the introduction of new materials, and the expansion of ABB's portfolio of mechanical products all serve to increase the competence demand in mechanics. We now need to further strengthen our team within mechanical design and machine elements. Examples of relevant products within ABB are industrial robots, turbochargers, motors & generators, conveyor drives, gear reducers and mine hoists.

Your principal role in this position will be to conduct research and development in Machine Design. This involves prototyping of new mechatronic concepts such as new robot concepts and grippers, planning tests for machine elements and designing test rigs. It is also part of your role to monitor the state-of-the-art methodology and technology within mechanical design in this area and promote the use of such methodology and technology within ABB's global organization.

You have an MSc or similar in Mechanical Engineering with a few years successful working experience in Mechanical Design. You should have an innovative mindset and be capable of considering new machine elements, materials and manufacturing techniques and their application to ABB products. Previous experience in industrial robot design and development is a strong merit.
To succeed in this position, you should be capable of working both independently and in a team, and of establishing collaborations both within ABB and externally with suppliers and other organizations. Good communication skill in English, both orally and in writing is required.
