You will be part of Technology and Solutions Development, within the Power Grids division, in Ludvika. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used, among other things, to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems.The Valve Development Department is a part of ABB Technology and Solutions Development in Ludvika and it is responsible for the development of semiconductor based HVDC and SVC valves. HVDC valves are used to convert AC to DC, and vice versa, and are essential for HVDC power transmissions. SVC valves are used in SVC systems, in order to support and stabilize AC systems. The Valve Development Department has around 17 employees, focusing mainly on electrical and mechanical design, and works in close collaboration with the global HVDC organization. Please find out more about our world leading technology at www.abb.com/hvdc.Tasks:As a R&D Engineer for valve mechanical design, you will take part in the development of the HVDC converter valves of tomorrow. The Valve Development department is responsible for the development of converter valves, a key component in HVDC transmission systems. The HVDC valves consists of more than 15 000 components and is a complex product which requires several years of experience before the technology can be fully mastered. There are only a few people with that competence in the world, and you will find a number of them at ABB in Ludvika. You will work with technically challenging products which span over several technological areas - for example heat transfer, electrical insulation, strength of materials and manufacturing technologies.Requirements:You hold a university degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, and at least 3 years of experience within Mechanical Design. Electro mechanical design experience from electric power industry or design of high voltage products is valuable. Strong proficiency in 3D-CAD modeling is a must, ideally in NX environment. It is preferable if you have good knowledge in Team Center and SAP as well. Since our business language is English it is crucial that you have good knowledge in verbal and written English.
