Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. Part of the success of our Department is due to our collaborative spirit.
This means that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and biostatistics). Only researchers who are interested in this model should consider this position.
Duties
The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics is seeking an epidemiologist to join the faculty of some 20 full professors in various epidemiological and statistical disciplines. We want to strengthen the faculty and recruit an epidemiologist considered a world class researcher in any area of epidemiology. The successful candidate is expected to stimulate and develop growth in his/her area of epidemiology and to contribute to the training of undergraduate and graduate students in scientific methodology. The successful candidate is expected to further develop the department's work within the field to a high international competitiveness.
We assume that the future professor will continue her/his research within the already established research area. Some teaching in the department's undergraduate and/or graduate programs is expected in the position, particularly in the Scientific Development in the medical program. The position can be combined with clinical work.
Entry requirements
All professors at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. Applicants for the position as professor in epidemiology must demonstrate excellent scientific skills. Applicants must have had publications of exceptional high-quality research in international journals with high impact in the last five to seven-year-period, and have the potential to become one of the leading international authorities in the advertised area as well as a researcher of international renown in this field. Applicants must have been the principal recipients of considerable research funding granted in national or international competition during the last five-year-period, and have the potential to secure further funding within his/her research area. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a marked increase in research activity as well as funding in the last five years. The candidate is expected to be one of the future leaders of the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Applicants must have well-documented leadership and collaboration experience.
Bases of assessment
The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), skills in leadership, development and collaboration (2) and pedagogical skills (1).
