You will be part of The Applied Mechanics group, at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås. We provide solid mechanics expertise to ABB business units worldwide, working across the whole range of ABB products including breakers, transformers, cables and motors. The continual development of ABB products and systems spawns ongoing R&D activities within the group.

Our activities include long-term R&D projects and short-term assignments. We have core competencies within the areas of acoustics, vibration, contact mechanics, structural dynamics, fatigue, constitutive behavior of metals and polymers, large deformations and advanced analysis of complex structures.

We have in-house access to extensive testing capabilities in acoustics and solid mechanics as well as a modern computational cluster for advanced modeling. Our combined testing and modeling expertise puts us in a unique position to solve a wide range of emerging industrial challenges relevant to ABB and its customers.

Do you have strong knowledge of solid mechanics modeling and are looking for a job in a research environment? As our new R&D Engineer within solid mechanics modeling you will use your expert knowledge to solve technical problems that arise within the following areas: fatigue and fracture mechanics, constitutive modeling or structural dynamics modeling. Together with your colleagues, you will plan, lead and conduct R&D projects and resolve our customers? technical issues. This job offers interesting challenges with products currently in use on the market. Beyond taking part in varying and challenging modeling tasks, we will offer you the opportunity to take on a role where you will have a lot of freedom and take own responsibility for your work and the group?s continued development.

You have a technical Ph.D. or a master?s degree, together with a few years? successful experience in either fatigue and fracture mechanics, constitutive modeling or structural dynamics modeling. Specifically, you have knowledge of the finite element method and numerical modeling or optimization. You are proficient in English and Swedish. It is also advantageous if you have experience building close customer relations and are familiar with programming of software applications. Beyond the formal requirements, you will approach problem in an analytical manner ? systematically identifying our customers? needs ? and creatively finding potential solutions. You enjoy working independently as much as in team and have strong communication skills.
