We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to boost our team, and to contribute to two ongoing projects focused on improving resilience in agricultural and food systems. The core of the projects is to apply trade modelling techniques to analyse the economic impact of disruptions due to adverse shocks. The overall goal of these projects is to improve resiliency in the food supply chain.
Duties
The environmental economics group -
https://www.slu.se/env-econ - is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to boost the research team. The successful applicant will be expected to develop their own research in the area of environmental and natural resource economics, and to contribute to two ongoing projects. The main project is part of the Swedish Research Centre for Resilient Meals (PLATE), where the tasks are to model the economic impact of future disruption scenarios on imports, production and prices, as well as analyse the mitigating impact of government policies and other strategies. The other project is part of VALues and dependence of society on pollinatORs (VALOR), where the task is to model the role of pollinators in crop trade networks. Note that the position as a postdoctoral researcher implies at least 80 percent research.
Qualifications
Successful applicants must have completed a PhD in economics, or be expecting to complete their PhD by August 2025. Applicants should normally have completed their PhD no more than three years before the application deadline. Candidates must have strong competence in international economics, and significant experience in trade modelling. Knowledge and experience in the following three areas are advantageous but not essential: (i) Ricardian models of trade; (ii) models of commodity storage; (iii) environmental economics. The ability to work constructively in a small group is essential. Successful applicants are also expected to be self-motivated, driven and to be able to work independently on (some aspects of) the projects.
