The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.



Division
The unit of cardiovascular epidemiology performs functional and epidemiological studies for cardiovascular, musculoskeletal disorders and inflammatory diseases.

Our research group focuses on research on the etiology and prognosis of the inflammatory diseases Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis. We have close collaborations with the Unit of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, Karolinska Institutet & Karolinska University Hospital, as well as with several international research institutes.

Duties

The successful candidate's work will focus on study on treatment response in Rheumatoid arthritis, mainly response to anti-TNFa. The research involves integration and analysis of multiple different data types collected within previous and ongoing studies, mainly the Combine material (http://www.combinesweden.se/), including flow cytometry and RNA sequencing data. This work is conducted in collaboration with various research groups at KI together with industrial partners and international collaborators. This project requires literature knowledge in the field of autoimmunity and pharmacogenetics, structured work and the ability to put complex results into context.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.

Qualifications

You need to have knowledge in statistics, bioinformatics and computer science. Experience in using R and working in Linux type environments is required as well as documented experience in RNA seq analysis with biomedical application.

You have to be highly proficient in English, spoken and written and have experience in writing papers within biomedicine.

Knowledge and interest in immunology and autoimmunity is an advantage.
