Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, is looking for a postdoctoral in cancer research with placement at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center (SCC).
At SCC, both basic and clinical research is conducted with a focus on translational cancer research of approximately 15 different research groups. Sundfeldt group's goal is to transfer new knowledge from basic research on ovarian tumorigenesis to clinically useful ovarian cancer prevention and early diagnosis to improve survival in the disease. The research project is being conducted in close collaboration with associate professor Anders Ståhlberg at SCC.
Subject area
Tumor biology, diagnostics / prevention, translational research.
Subject area description
Ovarian cancer is a relatively rare cancer disease most commonly diagnosed when it has spread throughout the abdominal cavity and therefore it is the gynecological cancer with highest mortality rate. Sundfeldt's research group studies possibilities for prevention and early diagnosis by studying basic mechanisms for ovarian cancer development and transferring it to clinically useful knowledge.
The aim of this project is to seek out the relationship between ovarian cancer and endometriosis. Endometriosis is a common disease that often causes pain and infertility in young women. There is an increased risk of ovarian cancer in later life, but the base of biological knowledge is insufficient.
Applicants will work with gene sequencing studies on frozen and paraffin embedded tissue as well as liquid biopsies and circulating tumor DNA.
Job assignments
Applicants are expected to be able to independently conduct experimental studies focusing on isolation of cells and DNA, gene sequencing and bioinformatic/biostatistic analysis, as well as analyzing and presenting scientific data in qualified written form. The employment entails participation in a translational research group with different issues surrounding cancer, but the main task is development of future diagnostic tools for gynecological cancer.
The employment also include Supervision of master students.
Eligibility
To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in tumorbiology/bioinformatics. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.
Assessment
Good knowledge of molecular biology laboratory work, previous training experience and good knowledge in spoken and written English is a most. Good knowledge of gene sequencing in cancer and bioinformatics is highly credible as well as previous work with large data. Meriting is strong personal motivation, being able to work structured, organized and independent, curiosity, accuracy and good teamwork. Personal appropriateness will be given importance. Following the qualitative overall assessment of competence and proficiency, applicants will be selected which are deemed to have the best conditions for implementing and developing current tasks and contributing to a positive development of the research group.
Employment
Fixed-term employment, 24 months at 100% employment rate. placed at The Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. First day of employment as agreed.
