The Department of Energy and Technology at SLU develops new knowledge within the fields of technology, bio energy and biometry aiming at a sustainable use of biological resources. The department has about 45 employees and is located at Ultuna, Uppsala.
Technology for precision farming in agriculture has potential to control the input of mineral fertilisers to obtain optimal effects on the harvest. By adaptation of the inputs to the specific conditions on each part of the field, the environmental load caused by the production can also be reduced.
Job description: We have developed Matlab based simulation models calculating growth and final harvest on a wheat field with varying soil conditions and cultivation inputs. The aim of the research is to expand the system modelled, so that also the effects on the direct environmental load can be quantified at different conditions. Important parameters are carbon balance and nitrous oxides, as well as leakage of nutrients to water.
Eligibility and qualifications: A requirement for this position is a PhD with knowledge on carbon and nitrogen processes in soils. Experiences in modelling and programming are also required. Knowledge on the technical systems used in precision farming as well as on Scandinavian conditions is a merit.
Your knowledge will also be important for our environmental systems analysis research, which aims at quantifying the environmental load caused by production of food and bio-energy raw materials. Thus, you should have good ability to cooperate with other researchers and an interest in applying your knowledge to adjoining subject areas.
To be appointed as a Postdoc, applicant should have been awarded their Ph D degree no more than three years ago at the time of application. Applicant awarded their PhD more than three years ago can be appointed as a researcher. The position is full-time and will be granted for a period of two years, starting as soon as possible.
SLU is an equal opportunity employer.
