Research tasks: Research within Sports Science at Mid Sweden University and at the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre includes integrative physiology and biomechanics with cross-country skiing and running as working models. The Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre is aiming to develop an injury prevention research profile and increase its contribution to Sports, Clinical, and Rehabilitation Sciences in a range of disciplines. This Post Doctoral Research position is specific to the study of sports injury prevention using an applied biomechanical and clinical approach. It involves recourse to movement analysis, force measurement, electromyography technology, multi-disciplinary collaboration, performance optimization, and studies on the interaction between individuals, equipment, and surface/ground. Many of the research studies will investigate the lower-leg and its involvement in movement and injury. In addition, the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre has an impressive collaborative network and has ongoing research projects both on national and international scales. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join select projects and should demonstrate a facility in upholding international research collaborations.
Partition of work: This full-time position is for 1 year with potential for a second year. The position involves approximately 80% of research specific tasks based at the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre and approximately 20% of education and development tasks for the Research Centre and the Mid Sweden University Sports Science program. The latter part entails responsibility for, and the completion of, specific development projects that aim to provide specific groups with knowledge on injury prevention through interactions with coaches, athletes, and physiotherapists at the NVC. The person should therefore demonstrate the capacity of translating information to a range of audiences and an ability to teach. The position also involves reviewing scientific manuscripts within the Research Centre to enhance the scientific and literary quality of English written work. Good scientific writing and peer-review experience are essential qualities.
Person criteria: The candidate should have proof of excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills. This includes previous experience in presenting work to academic and non-academic audiences in meetings and/or conferences. The person should also demonstrate good IT skills and training that includes experience of using Microsoft Office and Statistical Software Packages. It is important that the person has the knowledge and understanding of the principles of motion analysis and electromyography. Previous experience with motion analysis and electromyography systems is an advantage. The person should demonstrate an ability to plan, organise, and conduct a research project, as well as the capacity to summarise the information in a written and verbal form. Considering that this position involves close interactions with elite athlete, training and competition preparations, and coaching regime is a must. The candidate should have good work ethics, be proactive and innovative, and have sound knowledge of the musculoskeletal system.
