The Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry (CCBG, lnu.se/ccbg) and Protein Engineering (protein.technology) research groups within the Department of Chemistry and Biomedical Science at Linnaeus University invite applications for the position of postdoctoral researcher. The successful applicant will work in an active and diverse research environment, which is internationally competitive. Research within the groups is carried out at the interface between chemistry and biomedical science, applying various computational methods including quantum chemistry, classical simulation methods, network modelling, molecular modelling and bioinformatics, as well as experimental structural biology. The principle investigators collaborate with leading researchers in the U.S., several European countries and Brazil. The Department of Chemistry and Biomedical Science at Linnaeus University maintains a research and teaching portfolio that ranges from biophysical chemistry to physiology, immunology and microbiology.
Context of the position:
The working tasks consist mainly of research within computer-aided cancer research. More specifically, you will be expected to contribute to our efforts to better understand how resistance to targeted therapies emerges within tumour cells, design new inhibitors and test them experimentally. In your job you are expected to participate actively in the Department's environment and network, both internally and externally.
20% of the work may include teaching and tutoring at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Qualification requirements:
You should hold a PhD, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD, and have completed your degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
Applicants must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than a year in the same or a related subject area at Linnaeus University.
Additional requirements
Academic or industrial experience in computational chemistry or related area.
Excellent oral and written communication in English.
Experience with protein purification, characterisation and/or testing of inhibitors.
Experience in writing scientific computer programs.
Assessment criteria:
Priority will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
• Proven research track-record
• Experience in studying proteins using molecular modelling techniques and molecular dynamics simulations in particular
• Relevant lab and/or programming experience
In the overall assessment of skills, particular importance is attached to an assessment of the applicant's potential for a successful career as a teacher and researcher.

Scope and period: 100%, from acceptance until the end of 2016 or later.
We are looking for a candidate to step up our efforts in the field of computer-aided cancer research and covalent inhibitor design.
An extension of the period is possible, subject to mutual interest and availability of funds.
