Post doctoral and PhD student positions in Grid computing

Umeå university is seeking outstanding candidates for 1-3 post doc positions and 1-2 PhD student positions at the Department of Computing Science. The Grid computing research at the department is currently focusing on the design and analysis of methods, algorithms and software for service-oriented infrastructure for Grid resource brokering, Grid accounting, Grid-wide fairshare scheduling, multi-level job management systems, workflow management, and Grid portals, and an extension towards resource virtualization techniques is planned. Topics like Grid architecture design, service-oriented application development, and Grid standardization awareness are central to all these projects. See www.gird.se for an overview of ongoing projects.

Software is contributed to NorduGrid/ARC and the Globus Toolkit, the latter as a member of the Globus Academic Affiliate Program. The group is also an associated member of the CoreGRID Network of Excellence, member of the NESSI workgroup on service-oriented infrastructure, and funding of an additional EU project is under negotiation.

The research is performed in close collaboration with the High Performance Computing Center North (HPC2N). HPC2N is a member center of the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC), providing competence and computing resources, including grid resources. HPC2N actively takes part in Swegrid, NDGF, NorduGrid and EGEE.

The current positions are aimed to strengthen and broaden our current research, and includes collaboration with our international academic and industrial partners. The positions will be partly funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR) and the EU. Specific details about the positions follows below.
