3 POST DOC
till Centre for Baltic and East European Studies

The Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) coordinates research and doctoral studies focusing on the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe, one of Södertörn University College's most important research areas. At CBEES, there are three prioritised research themes:

• Knowledge and Sustainability: a multidisciplinary theme, extensive in scope including knowledge production, the environment and health
• Cultural Theory: Kosmopolis, Cultural Technologies and Cultural Public Spheres: a research theme focusing on questions about media and identity, citizenship and exile; the relationship between technology and culture; and questions about cultural value and the cultural canon
• Society and the Political: political and social tensions in periods of social change.

We are now inviting application for three postdoctoral positions, one for each of these prioritised areas:

• Knowledge and Sustainability (ref. no: 1342/22/2007)
• Cultural Theory (ref. no. 1343 /22/2207)
• Society and the Political (ref. no. 1344/22/2007)

Areas of responsibility
The successful candidates will be expected to conduct and develop independent research within the framework of the research themes at CBEES by organising conferences and seminars, and presenting their own research nationally and internationally.

The successful candidates will work in a research environment focusing on the Baltic Sea Region and including professors, research leaders, staff involved in research projects and doctoral students. The environment is multidisciplinary and multicultural.

The posts comprise 75% independent research and 25% administrative duties in connection with the research themes, as well as of a general nature.

To be qualified for the advertised posts, candidates will be expected to have taken a Swedish doctorate or an equivalent examination from another country. Ideally, the doctorate should have been completed no more than three years prior to the closing application date for the postdoctoral positions. Candidates, who have taken their doctorate more than three years before the closing application date, may be considered if there are extenuating circumstances. Such circumstances may include time taken out for illness, military service, trade union assignments, assignments within student organisations, parental leave and suchlike.

In the selection process, a candidate's research skills will be considered to be of particular merit.

In addition, the following criteria, in the following order, have been determined as particularly relevant for the advertised posts:
• Proven experience of research into the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe
• Proven experience of research in a subject/field of relevance to CBEES
• The quality of the research plan and its relevance to the specialisation
• Administrative skills and the ability to work in a team
• Ability to create local, national and international partnerships.
