The role
The Policy Fellow will play a key role in our emerging practice area around industry transitions, an emerging flagship topic in SEI's research and engagement work that explores how policy, finance and business practices in energy-intensive industry sectors can be aligned to achieve climate neutrality consistent with Paris Agreement and the latest scientific evidence from the IPCC.
Key duties and responsibilities include
Develop SEI's policy influence and impact on industry transition, providing recommendations to governments and companies on industry transition and working to identify viable pathways to net-zero emissions.
Lead stakeholder engagement and outreach on industry transition, in close collaboration with SEI communications team, and manage relationships with members of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), for which SEI is the Secretariat.
Contribute to other SEI projects, including on oil and gas transitions in the North Sea.
Provide overall project management and leaderhship, in line with SEI's project manual and processes, and carry out fundraising.
Who you are
We are looking for a person with a strong interest and proven ability to engage stakeholders and influence policy in energy, climate and industry. To succeed in this role, you should be driven, motivated, organised and a strong team player.
You have experience of managing and coordinating complex projects with multiple stakeholders, including budget management and financial reporting, team leadership, funder and consortium relations, etc.
Required qualifications and experience
Masters level qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. economics, public administration, political science, international relations, environmental policy, industrial policy or other topics), or equivalent experience of delivering independent high-quality research
At least 6-7 years' experience in stakeholder engagement and influencing policy processes
Outstanding diplomacy skills, with strong ability and foresight to understand and respond to political developments and challenges
Track record of using research to influence policy and practice, including demonstrable interest in and ability to convene and engage stakeholders and to facilitate policy dialogues
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, for both technical and public audiences
Experience working in multi-disciplinary diverse teams, including teams comprising of researchers, technical roles and policymakers
Project management experience and strong interpersonal skills
Ideally, the candidate would also bring:
Work experience in developing country contexts
Knowledge and experience of engaging with global governance processes, including UNFCCC negotiations, Agenda 2030 and other relevant processes
Fluency in Swedish would be an advantage
