The Department of Economics (www.slu.se/en/departments/economic) provide research and teaching in business studies as well as in economics. The Department emphasises applied science, often in cooperation with the university's natural science subjects. We work primarily with the food value chain as well as with natural resources, environmental- and sustainability issues in focus. We are organized in four research groups: entrepreneurship and innovation, agri-business decision-making and behavior, agricultural and food economics, as well as on natural resource and environmental economics. Together with Lund University, and by commission from the Swedish Government, we also provide economic expertise in the fields of food, agriculture, fishing and rural development through the AgriFood Economics Center (www.agrifood.se/eng). The Department has around 65 faculty and staff, including around 15 PhD students.
Description:
Would you like to work in a dynamic research group with several ongoing interdisciplinary collaborations? The group currently consists of six staff-members with different profiles but with a shared interest in behavioral, experimental and statistical methods. We aim to provide impactful and original results of relevance to both the society and to businesses with the green sector.
The Department of Economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) invites applications for a PhD student to join its research group "agri-business decision-making and behavior". The successful candidate is expected to carry out supervised research leading to a PhD thesis as well as taking PhD courses in accordance with the program's regulation.
The research within this position will relate to projects aiming to understand decisions by actors within the agri-food value chain. The work will be based on behavioral economics and use experimental as well as statistical methods.
Qualifications:
Basic eligibility for third cycle education in Economics or Business Studies. The successful applicant should have a solid background in empirical research methods as well as in quantitative data analysis. In particular, familiarity with experimental and behavioral methods will be considered a merit. Knowledge with agri-food value chains is also a merit. The position requires very good communication skills in English. The successful applicant should be strongly motivated to work with tasks outlined above. She/he is expected to work to establish own initiatives to move the PhD project forward and to work well in a research team. Personal merits will play a significant role in the recruitment process.
Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to written application including: a personal letter (no more than two pages A4) where we ask you in particular to provide your tentative research questions/ideas that you would like to address including a thorough motivation; a curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, one copy of the dissertation for masters or undergraduate degree, contact information of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language, and an interview with shortlisted candidates.

A person has basic eligibility for third cycle education if he or she has taken a second cycle qualification or has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second cycle education. Upper secondary school grades equivalent to English B/English 6 are a basic requirement.
