PhD student position in Business Economics with a focus on behavioral economics and experimental methods. The student shall develop a research agenda to understand decisions by actors within the agri-food sector (e.g., farmers or consumers) from a sustainable food system perspective.

The Department of Economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) invites applications for a PhD student to join its research group "Decision-making and managerial behaviour". The position is linked to a research theme with a focus on behavioral economics and experimental methods with a focus on sustainable food systems.

Description:
The research conducted by the successful candidate will be linked to ongoing research projects in the group, as well as to vivid interdisciplinary and international collaborations. The successful candidate is expected to carry out supervised research leading to a PhD thesis as well as taking PhD courses in accordance with the program's regulation.

The successful candidate will be offered a stimulating context with colleagues who focus on the process of coordinating and facilitating decision making and behaviour of individuals and businesses in the agri-food sector. The topics of interest add to the literature in agricultural economics, business studies, and related fields by an integration of economic theory with business practice. The group currently consists of six staff-members with different profiles but with a shared interest in behavioural and experimental methods.

Qualifications:
The student should have basic eligibility for third cycle education in Economics. The successful applicant is expected to have a solid background in empirical research methods as well as in quantitative data analysis. In particular, familiarity with experimental and behavioral methods will be considered a merit. Knowledge of the agri-food sector is also a merit. The position requires excellent communication skills in English. The successful applicant should be strongly motivated to work with tasks outlined above, she/he is expected to work to establish own initiatives to move the PhD project forward and to work well in a research team. Personal merits will play a significant role in the recruitment process.

A person has basic eligibility for third cycle education if he or she has taken a second cycle qualification or has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second cycle education. The specific entry requirement for the subject of economics is at least 90 HEC within economics-related subjects, with at least 30 HEC awarded at second-cycle level (see https://internt.slu.se/globalassets/mw/utb/forskarutbildningdocent/allmanna-studieplaner/s/efter-1-juli-2016/asp-economics-s-fak.pdf). Upper secondary school grades equivalent to English B/English 6 are a basic requirement.

Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to written application including: a personal letter (no more than two pages A4). We also ask you to provide your tentative research questions/ideas that you would like to address including a thorough motivation (no more than two pages A4); a curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, one copy of the dissertation for masters or undergraduate degree, contact information of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language, and an interview with shortlisted candidates.

Forms for funding or employment:
This is a 4-year employment (based on approval from annual evaluation) with monthly salary. The person holding this position will be expected to complete at least 90 ECTS from PhD-level courses relevant to the research field. The majority of these courses is taken during the first year.

To qualify for third-cycle (Doctoral) courses and study programmes, you must have a second-cycle (Master's) qualification. Alternatively, you must have conducted a minimum of four years of full-time study, of which a minimum of one year at second-cycle level.
