PhD student in Semiconductor Materials
formally based at Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, IFM

Duties
The work focuses on growth by metal organic vapor phase deposition (MOVPE) and control of doping in GaN and AlGaN for applications in energy efficient power electronics. Main tasks will include development of p-type doping of epitaxial films and device structures by both implantation and in-situ methods. The transport properties will be optimized employing advanced characterization including spectroscopic ellipsometry and optical Hall effect in the terahertz spectral range.

The PhD work will be performed at the Terahertz Materials Analysis Center (THeMaC) and the Centre for Group III Nitride Technology (C3NiT) in close collaboration with several industrial partners (Ericsson, Saab, ABB and On Semiconductor) and international leading laboratories (Naval Research Laboratory, USA). The applicant must therefore be able to work efficiently in a group, engage and cooperate with our academic and industrial partners.

As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who should hold a master's degree in physics, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering. Knowledge in semiconductor materials and solid-state physics is required. Experience with some characterization techniques of semiconductor materials is especially of merit. Good knowledge of English, written and spoken, is necessary for publications and presentations of research results in international journals and at conferences.

Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training.
