PhD student in Semiconductor Materials
formally based at Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, IFM

Duties
The work focuses around metal organic vapor phase deposition (MOVPE) of group III nitride semiconductor materials on GaN substrates and GaN templates for power electronic applications. The templates are made by Lund University using a coalescing nanowire technique resulting in very high quality GaN material. The work will also involve modeling to make predictions of measurable properties and outcomes from the MOVPE process, such as deposition and doping distributions, and growth rates. Advanced structural characterization including transmission electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction will also be employed.

The PhD work will be performed in close collaboration with Lund University, Chalmers University, the Terahertz Materials Analysis Center (THeMaC) - IFM, and the Centre for Group III Nitride Technology (C3NiT) - IFM, which includes several industrial partners (ABB, On Semiconductor, Saab). The applicant must therefore be able to work efficiently in a group, engage and cooperate with our academic and industrial partners, and actively direct the research toward commercialization.

As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who should hold master degree in Physics, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering. Knowledge in semiconductor materials and solid-state physics is required. Experience with some characterization techniques of semiconductor materials is especially of merit. Good knowledge of English, written and spoken, is necessary for publications and presentations of research results in international journals and at conferences.

Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training.
