Project title:
Organizational Prerequisites for Management-Healthy Jobs and Efficient Operations in the Public Sector.
Project description
Organizational conditions for operative managers are important for productivity as well as for work environment and health. The aim of this project is to study the organizational conditions of managerial performance in relation to stress, work environment and organizational effectiveness to enhance knowledge for making public sector services more innovative and healthy. A researcher guided interventions model will be implemented in local government organizations and other organizations constitute a reference group. Data on managerial demands, support, stress, as well as organizational conditions, effectiveness and work environment will be collected before and after the intervention. The conclusions will be used to design managerial training programs and organizational development. This position is intended for working in the project and writing a thesis on work organization, managerial demands, support, stress and health. The doctoral student will cooperate with researchers within several fields: Work Science, Organization, Public Sector Research, and Occupational Medicine and might also be involved in an EU-project on organizational changes.
The project is part of the multidisciplinary graduate school Miljö och Hälsa (Environment and Health) coordinate by Centre for Environment and Sustainability at University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology.
Qualifications
To be accepted the applicant should either having:
1. Obtained a Master s one degree (magisterexamen) or having been examined for 240 ECTS of which at least 60 ECTS at Master s level in Work Science, Behavioral Science, Public Health, or similar.
2. Obtained a B.A. (kandidatexamen) or 180 ECTS qualifying for a B.A. before 1st of July 2007. B.A. in Work Science, Behavioral Science, Public Health, or similar.
The applicant should have a documented interest in work science by having produced paper(s), article(s) or other kinds of presentations of good scientific quality and substantial size in this area of research. Knowledge of quantitative methods is required and should be documented in the application as the data on psychosocial working conditions, stress and health will be analyzed from surveys at two occasions over time. Knowledge also of qualitative methods is an advantage. English (written and spoken) and also fluent Swedish are required due to the study design.
Terms of employment
4 years full-time salaried doctoral studies, from 1st November 2008 or at latest from 1st January 2009.
